Ever since I was a child, I drew on any scrap of paper I could find. When I was in college, my art was influenced by the humorous illustrations of Peter De Seve and two great muralists of the 1930s, Thomas Hart Benton and Diego Rivera.
Since graduating with a degree in illustration, I painted murals for the Berryessa branch of the San Jose Public Library, Lester Shields Elementary School, the children's department of the Sunnyvale Public Library, the Sunnyvale Art Gallery and Russo McEntee Academy in San Jose, California. I did public art for 2 utility boxes in the cities of Santa Clara and Campbell, California.
Since December 2011, I've been the regular weekly political cartoonist for the Philippines Today, a Filipino American newspaper based in the San Francisco Bay Area. In August 2019, the Philippines Today merged with the Philippine News and is now called the Philippine News Today.
I self-published 4 books of my political cartoons: Hard Knocks, Tough Times, Making America Great Again: The Political Cartoons of Angelo Lopez 2016-2017, and Jasper the Cat and the Cartoons of the Everyday Citizen Website. I also have the book Bible Cartoons of cartoons that I did for an Episcopalian Church that I attended in the late 2000s
I won the 2016 Robert F. Kennedy Book and Journalism Award for Editorial Cartoons. I have also won the 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2018 Sigma Delta Chi award for editorial cartooning for newspapers with a circulation under 100,000. I won first prize for the Best of the West editorial cartooning contest in 2016 and third prize in 2017.
I am a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.
